To everyone who offered help;

Thanks for pointing out all the "glitches" in my code.  Thanks to your help, I did a major re-write of the code and am happy to report that it is now working as designed.  I removed the printk() statements, fixed the problems with the use of pthreads and pthread_attrs, and put the priority assignments back to using the "get_max" function.

I don't care what Gates et al says, I think the whole concept of Free Software/GPL Software and voluntary support from the community work GREAT!  Thanks again for all the help.
