which timer does RTLinux use?

Hi, 
    I was wondering if anyone could tell me which
timer is used by RTLinux to schedule periodic threads,
what the maximum frequency is and how good the
resolution is. I've tried to push threads to 10KHz and
checked a digital output with an oscilloscope and it
was perfect.
