I removed many of those spam loops from our server before they went out. I
wanted to end the cycle quickly. Many people won't see all the messages
because we didn't allow them to go out.
I've contacted the site the the mail originated from.

} the garbage I'm getting definitely seems to be comming from the spam

} could send to only some list members, rather than just "to the list" ?)

i've never installed rtlinux before. i followed all the instructions ( i
downloaded the rtl_2.4linux prepatch) and installed the kernel and booted
into linux with the rtl kernel. the final step (installing the modules) is
giving me problems. the directions say "cd /usr/src/rtlinux-2.0/rtl" and
run "make" , "make install" to install the rtl modules. i changed to the
directory /usr/src/rtlinux-3.0 and looked for the rtl directory. i don't
have it. i looked every where for a make file to install the modules. no
luck Whats up??

validating the toolset now, and a basic set of tools will be an option

Subject: [rtl] using shared memory in minirtl 2.3
Hello everybody,
I went thru the Shared Memory Howto and Frederick Proctor's paper
on using shared mem in realtime linux. It worked out nicely on a
standard PC running RTL 2.3. Then I tried to make it work on a
MOPS PC104 running MiniRTL 2.3.
Is there a way to reserve memory as a shared memory in MiniRTL 2.3
or do I need a totally different approach when implementing a
shared memory pool between a linux process and a rt linux process ?
Thank you very much in advance !
Kindest regards,
Peter

Subject: Re: [rtl] use of RT Fifo leads to IRQ be lost (RTL 2.2)
Many thanks for your excellent reply.
In my test apps, ISR are not writing in RT FIFO. It's a periodic thread.
I volontary make "big" write in RT FIFO because I think that under RTL2.2
the use of RT FIFO mask all IRQ.
I have look at RT FIFO code from RTL 3.1, it seem that change have been made
to "spin lock" only access to FIFO and not to mask interrupt during all the
time of write (or read).
I can't change now from RTL2.2 to RTL3.1, so I search somebody who know if
what I say is true (RTL2.2 versus RTL3.1).
I know that if I want to transfert lot of data between RT LINUX and LINUX, I
need to use shared memory and not RT FIFO. But, I prefer RT FIFO for small
transfert (cmd, etc ...), ONLY if that don't change IRQ latency in such
proportion I observed with RTL2.2.
I want to be sure that RTL3.1 solve this pb before migrating from RTL2.2 to
RTL3.1.

if you want to reserver some memory at the top - you can do that by adding
this to the boot-comandline in /syslinux.cfg of the boot-media. but mbuff
is on the system so you can simply insmod mbuff.o and user
mbuff_alloc/mbuff_free to set it up.

it should not need to be configured for Linux - it must though be initialized.
look at arch/ppc/8xx_io/uart.c .

yup , the interrupt interception code is checking if there is a rt-handler
installed - if there is it is called - no need for a Linux handler to be
available.

I guess the problem ist that SCCx + SMCx are all one interrupt to the core
comming from the CPM, so you can't catch the SCC1 interrupt but you must
catch the CPM interrupt and in case it is the SCC1 handle it if not pass
it on to Linux for handling. If you catch the CPM interrupt with an rt-handler
then you will have to take care of checking the devices on the CPM so I
don't think this can be done without changing the CPM related code.

This is not really trivial, since the SCC interrupts are handled
internally in the CPM, and the CPM then interrupts the SIU. Last time
I looked (in May, when we made our port of RTL for the 8xx available
to the public) RTL wouldn't allow to do what you want without major
reworking in the interrupt code.
I don't know about the current state, because of the license problems
we dropped all suport for RTL since then.

We have implemented a new, flat model of interrupt handling on the
8xx under RTAI; please let me know if this is an option for you.
