make sure the file extension on the patch is correct.

look for filename_tar.gz or filename_tar_gz or something.

to use "tar xzf", the file should be filename.tgz

also note that the options for "tar" do not have a preceeding "-"
ie., its tar xzf
     not tar -xzf
