The O'REILLY book LINUX DEVICE DRIVERS has a pretty good section on DMA.

I know very little about Linux programming, unfortunately,
but i am hoping to port a controller i have running under
dos to rtlinux. After many unfortunate experiments, my
MS-DOS driver for my A/D D/A board uses DMA and interrupts.
This forces the timing of the a/d to be synchronized with
the timer and i only have to do work when all of my data
is available, and i don't have to figure out which data i
am being handed each time my interrupt routine is invoked
(reduces the number of interrupts by a factor of 4 which is
nothing to sneeze at either).
My question is, is it possible to port this code to rtlinux.
If so, has anyone used DMA? i found one message in the archive asking
that
question with no answer.
