As long as you can ensure that your user-space application fits
into you physical ram, you do not need to have swap space.

At a normal workstation there will be allways the time where
the user wants to start an application that exceeds the the
physical amount of memory. For this cases, it is a rather good
idea to have some virtual memory as joker.

But in an embedded system, where the necessary amount is mostly
known ...

BTW: RT-Linux doesn't use swap-space at all (that would break realtime)
