[rtl] version 1.2 and kernel 2.2.x?

Is it possible/recommended to use the quite stable rtlv1.2 in conjunction
with kernel 2.2.x?
I would like to upgrademy kernel due to new hardware etc.

Does anybody expect any or is it just a thing of patching again and
recompiling the kernel?
