Distriubuted control systems.
IF the technology is available we'll use it.
( like next month .. running a rolling mill by Feb2000 if it works
well enough)
A HARD 1mS deadline opens up some really good options
shared memory for example.
We will run control say every 5mS and sync any memory changes inbetween
runs.
Current fiber optic shared memory solutiuons are approx $5,000 per node.
100mHz ethernet approx $50 per node not to mention the fiber costs.
I am really excited by this capability.
